Google Ad Grants · Account Setup

Grant approved — but your Google Ads account is empty.

This is one of the most common post-approval problems. In almost every case, your grant isn't missing — it's just not connected or being viewed correctly.

Google Ad Grant approved but account empty fix

Quick answer

You're almost certainly logged into the wrong Google account, looking at the wrong Customer ID, or the grant hasn't been fully linked yet.

Three separate systems are involved: Google for Nonprofits (verification), Google Ads (advertising platform), and the Ad Grants activation system. When any one of these isn't properly connected, your account appears empty — even though your grant is real.

Common reasons

Six reasons your account looks empty.

Reason 1 · Most common

Wrong Google account

Many nonprofits have multiple Google accounts — personal Gmail, organizational accounts, admin accounts, agency accounts. If you're logged into the wrong one, you'll see an empty or unrelated Ads account.

Reason 2

Wrong Customer ID (CID)

Google Ad Grants accounts are tied to a specific Customer ID. If you're in the wrong account — even the right Google login — you may see no campaigns, no billing setup, and a completely blank dashboard.

Reason 3

Grant account created separately

Google often creates a new Ads account during grant setup. Your existing Ads account is NOT the grant account. The grant account may be under a different login entirely, and approval emails reference a different CID.

Reason 4

Grant approved but not yet activated

Approval does not always mean activation is complete. You may still need to accept an invitation, link accounts properly, complete setup steps in Google Ads, or wait for system syncing. Until this is done, the account appears empty.

Reason 5

No campaigns built yet

Google Ad Grants does NOT automatically build campaigns. The account will be empty until you create them. There are no pre-built ads, pre-configured budgets, or auto-running promotions waiting for you.

Reason 6

Browser or session issue

Cached login sessions and multiple accounts open in the same browser can display the wrong dashboard. Try incognito mode, clear cookies, or switch browsers to rule this out quickly.

How to fix it

Five steps to find and activate your account.

Step 1

Confirm your Google account login

Use the exact email address that received the Ad Grant approval email. Do not use a personal Gmail or an agency account unless that's what was used during the original application.

Step 2

Check all Google Ads accounts

Go to ads.google.com and click the account selector in the top corner. Review all available Customer IDs. Switch between accounts carefully — the grant account may be listed under a name you don't immediately recognize.

Step 3

Verify against your approval email

Find your original Ad Grant approval email. It contains the Customer ID, account instructions, and activation steps. Make sure you are using the exact account listed there — not a separately created one.

Step 4

Check for pending activation steps

Some accounts require accepting an invitation link, linking your Google for Nonprofits account, accepting policy terms, or completing setup. Look for any pending items in your Google for Nonprofits dashboard.

Step 5

Clear browser issues

Try incognito mode, clear cookies and cache, switch browsers, and log out of all Google accounts before logging back in. This eliminates session conflicts that can display the wrong dashboard.

FAQ

Common questions about empty grant accounts.

Does Google Ad Grants automatically create ads for me?

No. You must create campaigns manually after activation. Google provides the $10,000 monthly budget but does not build campaigns on your behalf.

Why do I see a completely blank dashboard?

You are likely in the wrong Google Ads account, or the grant has not been fully activated. Confirm your Customer ID against the approval email.

How do I find my correct Customer ID?

Check your Google Ad Grants approval email — it contains the specific Customer ID (CID) for your grant account.

How long does it take for the account to appear?

Usually immediate after approval. Activation sync can take a few hours to 48 hours. More than a few days typically means a login or linking issue.

What if I still can't find my account?

Contact Google for Nonprofits support directly and reference your approval email and Customer ID. You may also need to review your account setup for login mismatches.
